Steve Serraiocco:
Steven Serraiocco (composer/lyricist) was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1974 and began classical piano lessons at the age of seven. He began studying jazz and improvisation in high school and began composing at age sixteen. He received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in music composition (with cognates in piano performance, lyric writing, and electronic music) from the University of Michigan, having studied with William Albright, William Bolcom, Evan Chambers, Andrew Mead, Bright Sheng, and Brent Wagner. In addition to his concert music, he has written music and lyrics for theater and cabaret songs, multimedia installations, film scores, television commercials and multimedia art installations. His musical, "All I Want..." received its first performance in Ann Arbor, Michigan in April 2000. He taught at the University of Michigan from 1998-2000 and now teaches privately, in New York City.
As a pianist, Steven has performed nationally with Doc Severinson, Marcus Belgrave, John Trudell, Matt Michaels, Chris Collins and several local Detroit jazz artists. He has toured Europe as both a jazz pianist and choral accompanist, appeared at the Montreux Detroit Jazz Festival and Detroit International Auto Show, performed with the Ford Motor Company Chorus, recently finished a musical theater workshop with director Robert Laconi and choreographer Angelo Fraboni (of The Full Monty), and is currently an accompanist with the Jose Limon Dance Studio. From professionals to children, he has taught music for ten years both privately and as music director and accompanist for the Young People's Theater and the Ann Arbor Civic Theater, where he worked with performers of all ages in performance classes, song and dance camps, and fully staged musicals.
Behind the mixing board, Steven has worked both independently and as assistant engineer for Tazmania Studios where he edited and mastered tracks for numerous projects, from Bright Sheng's orchestral music to Ted Nugent's "Believe in Detroit" album. He has recorded both live and in the studio, done sound design for the Wild Swan Theater and University of Michigan Power Center, recently completed work on a sample library for www.mH20.com, and continues to act as a studio consultant for musicians in Detroit and New York City.
Steve's current and recently completed projects include a score for the independent film "Moving Pictures," an arrangement of Tommy Dorsey hits for orchestra and solo trombone for John Rutherford (who recently recorded with Yo-Yo Ma), as well as some new electronic music projects. Recent performances included a trip to Ireland with a Jazz Ensemble led by New York musicians Dave O'Rourke and Fintin O'Neill of the Celtic Jazz Collective, where the group performed with actor Paul Newman.
